Title
Children with Autism and their Transition between Primary and Secondary School
Author
Jonathan Lai
Summary
This online article summarizes a research study which investigated whether mental health, behavior issues, adaptive functioning, and experiences of peer victimization changed for students with autism during the transition from primary to secondary school. Contrary to expectations, students did not have increased difficulties in secondary school, and bullying actually decreased during the transition.
The Autism Spectrum Disorders Treatment and Care Research group, based out of York University, writes summaries of research studies on autism and developmental disabilities to inform parents, individuals with autism, practitioners, and the general public on recent findings about autism.
