Summary
The Autism Classification System of Functioning: Social Communication (ACSF:SC) is a five-level descriptive system which may be used in talking about the communication abilities of children with autism between 3 and 6 years of age. It aims to provide parents, clinicians, and professionals with a common and positive language to describe these communication abilities.
The ACSF:SC will not replace any diagnostic tools or assessments, and it is not a test or a checklist. The system rates communication functioning in two situations:
When children are preforming at their best (Capacity)
What children usually do (Typical Performance)
CanChild is a research centre within McMaster University dedicated to maximizing "the quality of life and participation of children and youth with a variety of developmental conditions, along with their families, through evidence-based clinical and health services research." [Website]
