This evidence-based practices (EBP) brief describes response interruption/redirection (RIR), used to decrease inappropriate behavious (typically repetitive, stereotypical and/or self-injurious). In RIR, individuals are verbally or physically prevented from engaging in inappropriate behaviors and prompted to engage in appropriate alternative behaviors.
