Why Do Parents of Children With Autism Join Support Groups?
Author
Daniela Donoso
Summary
This online article describes a research study that examines factors associated with parent involvement in support groups and their experiences in the groups. Results indicate that parents were more likely to participate if they had children with greater needs (e.g., sleep problems, language problems) than parents who did not participate in support groups.

The Autism Spectrum Disorders Treatment and Care Research group, based out of York University, writes summaries of research studies on autism and developmental disabilities to inform parents, individuals with autism, practitioners, and the general public on recent findings about autism.
