Learning to Handle Worry: Anxiety Reduction Groups for Children and Adolescents
Children and adolescents with developmental disabilities, such as ASD, experience higher rates of anxiety than their peers. Challenges with anxiety can affect children’s thinking, sleep schedule, and ability to socialize with others. Interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) have been shown to significantly reduce anxiety symptoms in children and adolescents with developmental disabilities.
This anxiety reduction group led by a Registered Occupational Therapist. Children will have the opportunity to develop coping strategies for anxiety using an effective and proven CBT approach.
More specifically, children and adolescents will learn:
1. How to recognize the symptom of anxiety
2. Alternate patterns of thinking and feeling
3. Relaxation techniques
